TOP FIVE REASONS TO STUDY MATH AT THREE RIVERS
- Educated adults are expected to know mathematics - it is the 21st century after all! We live in a technologically complex time and math is needed to understand the world.
- Math is one of the 3 Rs. You need reading skills; you need writing skills. And math and arithmatic are needed, too. The world of work values mathematical skills.
- When you write you clarify your thinking. This is true when the writing is mathematical. Math is an incisive probe for exploring the world around and the world within. Math helps you to think clearly. Math is also a language with its own syntax. When you learn math you are learning a new language. The equation 3x - 1 = 7x + 14 means the same thing in Germany, Japan or Brazil as it does in America.
- You need math to be able to fully understand coursework in chemistry, physics and electronics. You don't learn math and just throw it away - it will most likely be needed at another time in another course.
- College Algebra is required for the AA degree!! That's an indication of math's importance in today's world.
