PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
The faculty of the Division of Health and Human Services endorses and supports the Mission of Three Rivers Community College. The Division provides programs to prepare students for transfer to 4-year baccalaureate institutions, and career and technical programs to prepare students for entry into a global workforce especially in areas of health care, human services, and physical and personal development. The division collaboratively partners with the health industry, and other colleges and universities to meet the changing needs of both students and those industries. The division provides academic services and student activities for a diverse student population. The faculty of the Division of Health and Human Services is committed to quality in higher education.
The Division is committed to educationally preparing individuals and to establishing a foundation for continuing self-development and learning as a productive member of the community in health care or human services. Development of the physical body is emphasized as well as development of the intellect. All programs are nationally accredited when such accreditation exists. Short, one-semester certification programs (such as emergency medical technician, medication technician and certified nursing assistant) prepare students to quickly and directly enter the work force after certification with the appropriate professional organization. Intermediate one year certificates (such as surgical technology and paramedic) prepare the para-professional to enter the work force upon certification or licensure with appropriate professional organizations. The associate of arts and associate of science degree programs (law enforcement and physical education) are designed to transfer to institutions granting baccalaureate degrees, while the associate of applied science (nursing, medical laboratory technology, and police science) prepare the student to enter the work force upon graduation. The Division is also committed to providing numerous continuing education programs to enable workers to meet the need for continued, self-development.
Commitment to meeting the individual needs of students and providing services that support the development of an adequate supply of trained health and human service workers challenges and directs the Division to continually explore the feasibility of offering new degree and certificate programs as both community and social needs within the district change. The implementation of new programs depends upon both student and market demand, approval by various outside agencies, and the availability of human, physical and fiscal resources. The main focus of the division continues to be responsiveness to the student and community.
