Open Computer Center
During regular hours, the Bedell Reading and Writing Center serves as an open computer center, allowing all TRCC students to study, type class-related materials, conduct Internet research, complete computer tutorials, and access the Rutland Library databases (available only through on-campus computers). Internet printouts may be purchased at 15 cents per page, and 3.5 inch floppy disks may be purchased for 50 cents each. TRCC students are expected to conduct themselves according to proper Internet etiquette.
English Instructional Software
The Reading and Writing Center offers two computerized instructional systems to allow students to improve their English skills: the Weaver Instructional System and the All Write! Program, both available on all of the computers. The Weaver Instructional System has two main components: the Weaver Reading Efficiency Program and the Weaver Language Skills Program. To improve reading ability and vocabulary, students may log on to the Weaver Reading Efficiency Program, which uses a diagnostic test to place students according to their current reading abilities, and stresses four areas of focus: subject, main idea, supporting details, and purpose. To improve mechanical and grammatical skills, students may log on to the Weaver Language Skills Program. Likewise, students may concentrate on the All Write! program for additional practice on their grammar and mechanics.
