Online Tutoring Sessions
Online tutoring sessions allow students to benefit from the Bedell RWC tutoring services without having to visit the campus. TRCC students enrolled in morning and afternoon classes as well as those enrolled in evening, off-campus, and web-based classes may submit their drafts for online tutoring help.
How do I submit an assignment for online review?
A student seeking an online tutoring session must submit the essay via email. Guidelines for submitting essays are as follows:
1. Open a new email message to be sent to the following address: writing@trcc.edu
2. In the "Subject" line of the email, type your name followed by the word "essay".
3. Send your essay as an attachment, saved in Microsoft Word format. No other word processing formats can be accepted. Do not cut and paste your essay into the text section of the email.
4. In the text section of the email message, include the following: -Student's name -Class name and section -Instructor's name -Assignment due date -Assignment description -Specific questions about content and/or grammar issues*
*You must ask specific questions of the tutors concerning your paper. Tutors will not read your paper, marking every error. Also, do not ask a tutor to "proofread for errors"; you are expected to have specific concerns with which a tutor can assist you.
When will I receive a response from a tutor?
Tutors will try to read your paper and answer your specific concerns as quickly as possible, normally within one working day. However, do not be surprised if two working days pass before you receive a response. Understand that there are many students who use the services offered, and your concerns will be addressed in the order received.
Please submit your writings early enough that the tutors have enough time to review and respond to the writings and the students have enough time to revise and edit without missing the deadlines for the assignments. Do not submit an essay online for review which is due the next day in your class!
What kinds of questions could I ask a tutor about my paper?
A student may ask general or specific questions about the following content areas:
Am I following my instructor's directions for the assignment? Is my writing focused? Do I have a workable thesis statement? Does my writing fulfill the purpose of the assignment? Is my writing organized? Do my ideas have an effective arrangement? Do my paragraphs logically lead the reader from the introduction to the body to the conclusion? Are my ideas developed? Does my writing contain supporting details and relevant examples? Is my writing coherent? Does my writing "flow"? Does each paragraph have a topic sentence? Does my writing have transitions that move the reader from one idea to another? Does my writing reflect the style expected for college-level writing? Do my sentences have varying sentence structure? Is my tone appropriate? Are my word choices appropriate? Do my title and introduction get the attention of the reader? Does my conclusion make the reader remember my thesis, main idea, or main point?
A student may also ask specific questions about the following grammar issues:
Fragments, Run-on sentences, and comma splices Commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, semicolons, and colons Rules of capitalization, abbreviations, numbers Subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, and parallelism
