Connect 4 Project

This project involves working with 5 area school districts that have been classified as high needs in terms of math ability by the state.  The funding for the project comes from the state.  We have a math coach who visits these districts and works with teachers.  She shares with them teaching methods that have been shown to improve skills. We have had a four day workshop in August, two follow up meetings, and 2 more are planned for the Spring.  My role has been to oversee the program.
I was in charge of organizing the team that would oversee the project.  This team included a superintendent, an assistant superintendent, 2 principals, and 2 teachers; all  from different districts.  I was in charge of hiring our math coach.  Also, to make first contact with all 20 teachers involved.  I organized and planned the four day workshop.  I currently oversee the math coach.  This includes:  helping her to order manipulatives, attend meaningful workshops, make sure she stays in contact with the 20 teachers, and attend to daily problems that come up.  This is a one year grant.
However, all participants want to continue in some way.  We plan to allow area teachers to check out any book and manipulatives we accumulate this year, I will oversee this.  I plan to organize workshops for teachers to attend.  This has been a personally rewarding experience.
