Testing
The Testing and Assessment Center is located in Room 209 of the E.K. Porter Distance Learning Center.  The Center administers a number of different tests ranging from the COMPASS placement assessment for new students to the CAAP exit assessment for TRCC graduates.  A brief description of the testing services offered by the Testing and Assessment Center is listed below.

COMPASS Online Placement Tests
The COMPASS test is an untimed examination taken on computer in TRCC’s Testing Center, as well as other satellite locations. You will need your Social Security Number to take this test.  You do not need computer skills to take the test; it is extremely user-friendly and is less stressful than traditional paper and pencil tests. The COMPASS is designed to measure current skills in writing, reading and math; the results are used to select appropriate levels of the English and Math courses you will take.  Testing time: varies.

CAAP Exit AssessmentMANDATORY FOR ALL GRADUATES

Next CAAP Test Date: Tuesday, Nov. 11
MANDATORY for all planing to graduate in December 2008

The College Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) is a battery of four exams in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Critical Thinking given to students in the semester of graduation.  Each Associate of Arts (AA) student who participates in CAAP will take all four exams (testing time is 4 hours). Each Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and Associate of Science (AS) student who participates in CAAP will take three of the four exams (math excluded) (testing time is 3 hours).  The exams are given in random order. Because CAAP is important in assessing the success and effectiveness of Three Rivers’ academic and vocational programs, all graduating students must participate.  This testing session also includes the Student Opinion Survey, which measures the students’ level of personal satisfaction with their experience at TRCC.  There is no cost for this exam.  For more information on the CAAP Exit Assessment visit the CAAP website.

C-Base Exam
The College Basic Academic Subjects Exam (C-BASE) is required for all education majors in the state of Missouri.  Students must pass all four sections of C-BASE: Writing/English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies for admission to a four-year degree program. C-BASE is offered in the months of January, March, June, September, and November/December.  The testing fee is $50.  Testing time: four hours.  For more information on this exam, go to the Assessment Resource Center guide. (a PDF document) 
 


CLEP Tests
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a series of tests that students can take to earn college-equivalent credit.  Trcc offers a number of different exams for credit.  Please consult the college catalog for a list of current CLEP-eligible subject tests.  CLEP is given on computer by appointment only.  The testing fee is $15 payable to TRCC and $70 payable to CLEP.  Testing time: two hours.  For more information on these tests visit the College Board's CLEP website.  


Health Occupations Aptitude Tests
Students wishing to enter the programs for Emergency Medical Technician, Medical Laboratory Technician, or Surgical Technician must take the PSB Health Occupation Aptitude Exam.  Test dates and times are scheduled by appointment through the offices of the respective academic programs. Testing fee is $15.  Testing time: three hours.  For more information on these tests visit the following websites:


GED Exam
TRCC is the official testing site for the GED high school equivalency exam. Students must apply for test admission with the state GED office in Jefferson City.  There is a $20 application fee.  Upon receipt of the admission form from the state, students must complete the eight-page GED Demographics Form at a local Adult Education and Literacy Center.  To register to take the GED at
TRCC, students must submit their state admission form, Candidates Responsibility Sheet, completed demographics form, and a $20 testing fee to the TRCC Testing Office PRIOR to the test registration deadline.
