THREE RIVERS BANDS TO PRESENT SPRING CONCERT
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - The Three Rivers Community College Jazz and Symphonic Bands directed by William White will present a Spring Concert at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 13 in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the Three Rivers campus.
The Jazz Band will perform contemporary and standard jazz compositions such as "Hay Burner" by Sammy Nestico, and "Manteca" by Dizzy Gillespe. Jazz Band members are from Poplar Bluff, Doniphan, Van Buren, and Dudley.
The Jazz Band will feature two new and unique instruments during the Tuesday evening concert. The Zen Drum and the Keytar, added to the band's repertoire this spring, will have their premiere concert performance with the Jazz Band. Both are some of the latest electronic MIDI instruments used by bands today and allow players a new range of sounds and rhythms.
The Symphonic Band will perform traditional and contemporary works. The selections include "Who’s Who in Navy Blue" by John Philip Sousa, "Old American Songs" by Aaron Copland, "St. Florian Chorale" by Thomas Doss, "Selections From Mr. Lucky" by Henry Mancini and “Tanabata”, by 18-year-old Japanese composer Itaru Sakai.
The Symphonic Band members consists of college and high school students as well and community members from across Southeast Missouri including instrumentalists from Dexter, Ellington, Ellsinore, Fredericktown, Kennett, Poplar Bluff, Qulin, and Van Buren.
The concert will be free and open to the public.
