The forum will be held at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9 in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on the Three Rivers campus in Poplar Bluff.
“We’re honored that the candidates have accepted the invitation to join us for the Missouri Leadership Forum at Three Rivers and feel this is an unprecedented opportunity for Southeast Missourians to hear both men back-to-back on the same platform,” said TRCC Foundation Executive Director Judith W. Scott. “This is a crucial election for our state and Southeast Missourians deserve the opportunity to hear both candidates speak in a civil and thoughtful format.”
The forum will be a non-debate format. Each candidate will talk separately with a moderator who will ask both candidates the same set of questions. After both candidates have had the opportunity to talk with the moderator, they will appear together on stage to answer a question submitted in advance by their opponent and give closing remarks to the audience.
“The Missouri Leadership Forum will focus on leadership, public affairs, service and a vision for Missouri,” Scott said. “For the first time since 1992 Missourians will elect a new attorney general. This election is important to Missourians. Those of us in Southeast Missouri are just like that old saying: We come from the part of our state that raises corn, cotton and cockleburs, and folks say “show me”. The Missouri Leadership Forum is an opportunity for voters in our region to see and hear for themselves from the men who want to be the chief law enforcement official in our state for the next four years.”
The Missouri Leadership Forum was established by the Three Rivers Community College Foundation to promote public awareness and to help a new generation of leaders learn from Missourians in leadership positions today.
The non-profit TRCC Foundation raises funds for Three Rivers’ development and enhancement. The mission of the Foundation is to enhance Three Rivers Community College and the surrounding region by promoting access to the college and to advance institutional excellence through financial support. To date, the Foundation has spent more than $5 million with the college.
For four decades Three Rivers Community College has served Southeast Missouri accessible, affordable and quality learning opportunities. Three Rivers offers courses on its main campus in Poplar Bluff, at its full-service Centers in Kennett, Malden, Sikeston, Campbell and Portageville and at locations throughout Southeast Missouri, as well as e-learning opportunities with online courses.
