Refund Questions and Answers
I have a credit balance. When should I expect my refund check?
Once your financial aid is credited to your student account by the Financial Aid Office, the Business Office begins working on preparing refund checks of any excess funds. This takes up to 14 days. Once checks are ready for mailing, announcements will be posted on our website and on all TV monitors.
Can I call the Business Office to find out if I have a
refund
or how much my refund check is?
We ask that students hold their questions until checks and statements have been sent out. This allows Business Office staff to concentrate their efforts into preparing checks for mailing as quickly as possible. If you still have questions after you receive your check and/or statement, please contact the Business Office for help.
Why don’t I get my financial aid at the beginning of the semester?
Federal guidelines require students to attend 60% of the semester to avoid any awarded funds being returned to the Department of Education. Students whose funds must be returned to the Department of Education are left with potentially large balances which are not covered by the government. TRCC tries to award aid as close to this 60% date as possible to minimize students left with outstanding debt that could have a negative impact on their personal credit rating.
While checks are being processed by the Business Office, is TRCC making interest off the money from the government?
TRCC does not receive government funds until all checks are prepared for release. The incoming funds and the outgoing refunds happen nearly simultaneously. Therefore, the college does not make any interest on these funds.
My check still hasn’t arrived in the mail. Should I call the Business Office about my check?
First, verify that your aid has been credited to your account. You can look at the details of your account on myTRCC. Next, look for the announcement that checks have been sent out. Lastly, be patient. Many times students’ funds are available to them much faster if they wait another day or two for the mail to reach them rather than waiting the additional time necessary to get a replacement check. TRCC banking policy is to allow 10 business days from the published mailing date before issuing a replacement check. If you still haven’t received your check after 10 business days, please contact the Business Office to arrange a replacement check.
My address on file with TRCC is not accurate.
What will happen to my check?
To ensure your funds reach you quickly, it is vital that you keep your address updated with TRCC records. For security reasons, TRCC mail is returned to us even if you have a forwarding address on file with the post office. If the post office returns your mail to us with a forwarding address on it, we will use that information to re-mail your check and update our records. This process does, however, take more time because of the additional delivery time involved.
Why didn’t I receive a refund?
There are various reasons why your account did not result in a refund. Some of the most common reasons are:
- Your financial aid has not been credited to your account. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to investigate.
- The credit from your financial aid did not exceed your total charges. Your total charges include any balance on your Rivers Ridge housing lease.
