Three Rivers Instructor given Excellence in Teaching Award

Greg Hicks, Instructor of Business at Three Rivers College, received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching at a Missouri Community College Association awards luncheon in Jefferson City. The award is given to the top community college instructors in Missouri each year.

"The most rewarding aspect of my career as a community college educator has been seeing my students become successful, whether they are non-traditional students seeking re-entry into the workforce or those who transfer," said Hicks. "Giving these students the opportunity that they may not have elsewhere to succeed is what I have always been about."

Hicks has taught at Three Rivers for over 25 years, specializing in information systems and technology. Among his achievements during his tenure is the creation of an Information Systems bachelor degree completion program in partnership with Hannibal-LaGrange University, and the spreading of technology throughout K-12 classrooms in the region through his Technology for Teachers course.

"We're proud to have Greg as one of our instructors here at Three Rivers," said Dr. Wesley Payne, Vice President for Learning at Three Rivers. "I think his focus on the use of technology in the classroom and working closely with students represents the kind of innovation and quality in education that Three Rivers is known for."

In addition to the award, Hicks will receive a proclamation from Missouri Governor Jay Nixon celebrating his achievement.
