Center Stage to perform Godspell at Tinnin Center
Center Stage - Three Rivers College's theater company - will present a production of Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak's Godspell April 11-12 at 7 p.m. and April 13 at 2:30 p.m at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center in Poplar Bluff. Tickets are $10, or $5 with a valid Three Rivers student ID.
Godspell is a musical retelling of the Gospel according to St. Matthew, following Jesus Christ and his apostles from the beginning of his ministry through his death. The musical was written by Schwartz (who later went on to write the internationally acclaimed Wicked) in 1971. It has since seen multiple runs both on and off Broadway, including a film version starring Victor Garber and a recent Broadway revival starring Hunter Parrish. Songs from the musical include "Day by Day," "Beautiful City," and "Save the People."
"Godspell is one of the classics of musical theater, and a perfect production for a small theater company like Center Stage," said Bob Cook, Instructor of Theater at Three Rivers and the director of Center Stage's production of Godspell. "We have an outstanding cast this year, and they've been throwing themselves heart-and-soul into the production."
Center Stage is a blended theater company that brings together students, college employees, and community members to produce live theater. It provides both local entertainment and hands-on experience for Three Rivers students interested in the dramatic arts. Tickets are available at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce, the Financial Services Office on Three Rivers' Poplar Bluff Campus, or at the door.
