Three Rivers College moves annual Poetry Slam event to virtual forum
Three Rivers College has moved its annual event Big G’s Open Mic Night Fist Fight Poetry Slam to a virtual forum this year. The Poetry Slam will be held at 7 p.m. May 7 via Zoom, an online video service that attendees can sign into for free.
Three Rivers students, faculty, and staff, as well as community poets are invited to join the Zoom event and share their poems about life during quarantine and other topics.
“Writers always find a way to express themselves. They tap a message on their phones or scribble notes on a napkin. Writers need an audience, too,” said Gregory Snell, Assistant Professor of English at Three Rivers. “Dorothy Parker says: ‘Of course, I talk to myself. I like a good speaker and I appreciate an intelligent audience,’” Snell joked.
“But seriously, during this time of separation, Three Rivers is pleased to bring writers together and offer a platform where they can express themselves. We hope everyone who is interested will come to share or listen,” said Snell.
